Our product lines include Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and Fault-Managed Power Systems (FMPS) for the telecom, cable-broadband, data-centre and critical-infrastructure markets. We design digitally-controlled AC-DC, DC-DC, DC-AC and AC-AC converters from concept through certified, high-volume production, with a focus on modular, scalable architectures and 95%+ energy efficiency. The team has roots going back to the Founder’s pioneering work on cable-ackup power in the 1970s, and brings a combined 150 years of communications and power-electronics experience. Equinox is a pre-revenue, funded engineering company — small, deliberate, and building for products that ship at commercial scale.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Compliance Engineer with strong experience in power electronics product certification to manage regulatory compliance for products such as battery chargers, up-converters, down-converters, and related power conversion equipment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for driving certification activities from early design stages through final approval, ensuring products meet global regulatory, safety, EMC, environmental, and material compliance requirements.
This role will report to the Director of Engineering and is a great opportunity for someone to work in a small early-stage company where you will have the chance to contribute to innovative projects and learn and grow with other like-minded experienced engineers.
Duties and Responsibilities
Regulatory & Certification
- Lead certification efforts for power electronics products to meet CSA, UL, and other applicable safety standards
- Manage EMC compliance including conducted and radiated emissions
- Ensure compliance with immunity standards (ESD, EFT, surge, RF immunity)
- Manage Functional Safety certification
- Ensure RoHS and material compliance documentation is complete and auditable
- Support regional certifications as required (e.g. FCC, CE, IEC, EN standards)
- Define and execute compliance test plans for:
- EMC (conducted and radiated)
- Immunity testing
- Environmental testing (salt fog, temperature cycling, humidity, altitude)
- Coordinate internal pre-compliance testing and external certified test labs
- Analyze test results, identify non-compliance issues, and drive corrective actions
Documentation & Project Management
- Prepare and maintain compliance documentation, reports, and submissions
- Interface with certification bodies and regulatory agencies
- Track compliance schedules and certification milestones
- Support audits, regulatory inquiries, and customer compliance requests
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in product compliance or certification for power electronics
- Experience with:
- EMC (radiated & conducted emissions)
- Immunity testing (ESD, EFT, surge)
- Safety standards (CSA, UL60950-1 and UL 62368-1)
- Environmental testing (salt fog, temperature, humidity, altitude)
- Experience working with certification laboratories
Preferred Experience
- Strong understanding of power electronics topologies
- Experience with switch-mode power supplies, chargers, or DC-DC converters
- Familiarity with IEC, EN, FCC, CISPR standards
- Experience with global multi-region certifications
- Ability to work closely with hardware, mechanical, and layout engineers to ensure design-for-compliance
- Ability to review schematics, PCB layouts, grounding, shielding, and filtering strategies
- Ability to recommend design improvements to meet regulatory requirements with minimal cost and schedule impact

Salary Range: $95,000 to $115,000 per year
